Álvaro Ortiz

(Zaragoza, Spain, 1983)

He studied Graphic Design in the College of Design of Aragon and Illustration in the Escola Massana of Barcelona. After winning different comic contests (among them Injuve, in 2003), collaborating in collective albums such as Tapa Roja and Lanza en astillero of Sins entindo Editions and several DTPs, in 2005 he released Julia y el verano muerto, which would be followed by Julia y La voz de la ballena in 2009, both published by Edicions de Ponent; thanks to the latter, he would be nominated as the best breakout artist in the Salón Internacional del Comic of Barcelona in 2010. At the end of 2010 he opts for DTP again with Fjorden (whose digital version can be downloaded in www.veranomuerto.blogspot.com) before dealing with his most ambitious project to this date: Cenizas, a comic made in 2011 and 2012 thanks to the Alhóndiga Bilbao grant in the Maison des Auteurs de Angoulême, published by Astiberri in 2012. Álvaro Ortiz also works as a freelance illustrator.
