Miguel Ángel Martín

As a comic book artist, he became known in 1992 when he won the Best Newcomer Award in the Salón Internacional del Comic in Barcelona. Seven years later he would get the Yellow Kid Award as the Best Foreign Artist in Rome, equivalent to the Oscars of the comic strips. He subsequently became one of the best known European artists in Italy, where he has won important prizes such as the Gran Premio “Attilio Micheluzzi” (Naples, Comicon, 2003) Best European Comic award Romics (Rome, 2006), and the prize awarded by the readers of Repubblica XL to the Best Comic of the Year (Naples, Comicon, 2007). He rewrote his series “Kyrie Nuevo Europeo” and turned it into a theatre play which was first performed in Madrid under the direction of Pepe Mora. He also wrote the script for the 35 mm short based on comics Snuff 2000, directed by the cartoonist and film director Borja Crespo. As an illustrator and animator, he also created the masterhead for the programme iPOP (TVE 2) and the animated bumper for the channel Cinemanía (Canal Satélite Digital) within the project “Microfilms”. His comic work “Atolladero” was made into a movie by its screenwriter Óscar Aibar. He designed the posters for Jess Franco’s movie Killer Barbies, the press book of La lengua asesina, a film by Alberto Schiama, the poster of the Cuban film Un paraíso bajo las estrellas (in collaboration with the designer Óscar Mariné) and different design and merchandising articles (T-shirts, dolls, mugs, key rings, coasters, bath curtains...) for the firm Cha-chá. In 2007 he designed the calendar of the prestigious Italian designing firm YOOX.com.
